Gallery Pizza officially branded itself as a place that home delivers high quality Italian pizza until 4am. They do -- but I'm about to re-brand them.
On closer inspection you'll see why: It's partnered with the recently opened Sathon 11 Art Space. If you've got a passion for art and pizza, then your pursuit for appealing aesthetics in Bangkok just got more saucey.
I scrapped the whole "I'll get drunk and order a 2am Gallery Pizza" idea. Instead, I went there to experience a lunchtime dining exclusively with my side-giks -- art, wine and pizza, of course.
The space goes for the "urban renovated meatpacking townhouse turned hipster-artsy" look. Hashtag alert! #urbanrenovatedmeatpackingtownhouseturnedhipster-artsy. The walls are filled with gorgeous paintings by local artists. Every slice supports them, too.
We went for American pepperoni (B355), White Italian (B385) and New Yorker (B410). Each pizza is 12" (30cm) -- an adequate size for one hungry person. According to Chef and founder Shane Greene, who ate, drank and trained with some of the top pizzaiolos of Italy (Assisi and Florence, lucky chap) the Italians don't really do small, medium or large. So, one size only, amore mio. Slice it or leave it.
All three were delicious. The dough was slightly charred, giving a crispy wood-fired oven texture, followed by a warm, freshly baked mouthfeel. The ingredients were simple, but spot on, right down to the salt, fresh basil and garlic.
The White Italian was the winner, with buffalo mozzarella, baked spinach, Italian sausage and parmesan sprinkled on top. They call it that in Italy because it comes without sauce, which basically means extra cheese -- Gallery pizza give you the kind that slowly slides off when you tear a slice.
Next time I'll try the Thai-inspired Pat krapao pizza (B325) with mozzarella, stir fried pork, basil and chilli. Price-wise, the most expensive pizza was New Yorker, and the cheapest Margherita (B285), a little higher than Pizza company. That's the price you pay for top quality (also an extra B40 for delivery). But, last time I checked, Pizza Company only deliver 'til midnight.
