Step aside the past hits like Temple Run, Subway Surfers and Despicable Me: Minion Rush! Now gamers have Steppy Pants, new walking-simulator game as their latest favourite, if not addiction, which has become a blast only a month after its launch. It is now ranked the second most popular free application on the App Store as of this week.

Developed by Super Entertainment, Steppy Pants was released last month. The free mobile game was created by Stephen Last and Shath Maguire, programmer and artist of the original iOS version of Fruit Ninja, one of the most likeable fruit-slicing games many years ago.

Last's inspiration for creating Steppy Pants was simple. He noticed one night while walking home from a pub that he instinctively avoided stepping on cracks on the footpath -- thing many also have been attempted to do unknowingly while walking down the street. Last then just realised that he had been doing so all his life and decided to turn his habit into a mobile game that is close not just to his but other people's reality.

On the surface, Steppy Pants looks like a no-brainer. Player, taking the role of a zombie-like character, is required to just walk and walk and walk on a pavement. While doing so, he is to avoid stepping on sidewalk cracks. Insurmountable odds like reckless drivers and TNT bombs are also there as obstacles. Player's challenge is both to walk the longest distance and to go the highest number of steps in one go. Hilarious rewards and bonus costumes can be won all through the game.

This is pretty much it about Steppy Pants. In a nutshell, it is just about walking the endless walk. But once tried, the game will suddenly become very addictive. According to the game's official Facebook account, it has already reached 3 million downloads globally. Unfortunately, Steppy Pants is now only available on the App Store. A lot of fans have, however, requested through the page that the game be developed for Android users, too.

Steppy Pants is proven such a real big thing -- to the point people made their own human version of Steppy Pants as a real-life video and posted it online. There is one short clip shot in Thailand too which is on YouTube. It's not just a good laugh but also aims to show how dangerous the country's crosswalks are.

Despite the fun, Steppy Pants comes with a few drawbacks. The game is battery-consuming. And although it can be played only by one hand, trying to beat one's own record is tense. But it is a good time-killer. And above all, you don't need to be strategically wise to play it. The only thing you need to keep a watchful eye on is your phone's battery power, your shoulder muscles and trigger finger.
