Siam Paragon is hosting the "Nagara Painting Exhibition", showcasing artworks from the soul of top-notch fashion designer Nagara Sambandaraksa, from today until Sept 19.
This is the third time that the force behind the long-established Nagara fashion house will showcase a special collection of 36 abstract paintings he has created during the past three years, using a synthetic enamel for painting with silver and golden plate to express his emotion and imagination.
Each of the artworks has its own unique style, power and impact that can be variously interpreted and linked to connect to eternal feelings of art lovers. However, the designer-cum-artist reiterated that the paintings did not emerge from specific inspiration but it is a way of conveying emotion, spirit and imagination through the art, as driven by his own passion for both painting and fashion design.
Some of the works from this new collection were exhibited in Florence, Italy, in March.
For more than three decades, his fashion label has been characterised by the use of Thai silk designed and tailored with an extraordinary blend of the Thai essence, Oriental charm and Western modernity. Hand-painted fabric is also the brand's signature, topped with the fine tailoring technique, tie-dyed style and exotic embroidery.
Recently, he has been recognised as one of the leading abstract artists. He exhibited his artworks for the first time in 2015 and again in 2017.
The exhibition is being held at the Hall of Fame, M floor. Part of the proceeds from sales of the paintings will be donated to Ramathibodi Foundation for the provision of medical equipment for the Chakri Naruebodindra Medical Institute.
