TV actress and former Miss Teen Thailand Amelia "Amy" Jacobs was sentenced to a jail term of 3 months, suspended for two years, and fined 5,000 baht for using illicit drugs by Min Buri Court on Tuesday.
Her boyfriend was sentenced to 25 years, four months and 15 days in prison.
Punyawat Hirantecha, 41, and Amelia, 29, of Thai-Dutch parentage, were arraigned on charges of collusion in having crystal methamphetamine and ecstasy pills in their possession for use and sale.
The pair were apprehended by police at a house in Chaiyapruek housing estate on Sukhaphiban 5 Road around 12.30am on Sept 19 last year. Police seized 70 grammes of crystal meth,16 ecstasy pills, a scale and drug use paraphernalia.
The raid followed the arrest of a man identified only as Nat at the entrance of Soi Sukhonthasawat 17 in Bangkok’s Lat Phrao district. Crystal meth was found in his possession. When questioned by police he said he bought the drugs from Mr Punyawat.
Mr Punyawat confessed to all charges. His girlfriend admitted to taking illicit drugs, but denied selling them.
The court sentenced Mr Punyawat to a total of 25 years, four months and 15 days in jail and fined him 750,000 baht for possession and sale of illicit drugs.
The court handed Ms Amelia a prison term of six months and a fine of 10,000 baht for drug use. The sentence was then commuted by half, because she cooperated, and the jail sentence suspended for two years.
She was ordered to report to the Probation Department every three months for a urine test for drug use. She was also ordered to do 24 hours of community service. The court acquitted her of possesion with intent to sell.
The actress expressed her delight after hearing the light sentence. Her parents were in court to support her.
Ms Amelia, who was Miss Teen Thailand 2006, plays the lead role in the popular TV Channel 7 drama "Thida Wanorn (Monkey Daughter)".
