The popularity of TV series Bupphaesannivas (Love Destiny) has led to Thais from all walks of life donning traditional costumes on increasing occasions across the country.
In Chon Buri, fans of the series showed up at Bang Lamung district office in traditional clothing on Tuesday to have their photos taken for new ID cards. Officials providing the service also wore Thai costumes.
Staff at Wave Hair Design beauty salon in Pattaya have also donned Thai outfits like those worn in the historical drama series.
In northeastern Udon Thani, government officials and residents were seen wearing traditional costumes while giving alms to monks at Nong Prachak Silpakhom public park on Tuesday.
Phra Arkhan Somparn, assistant abbot of Wat Photisomporn, said the TV series has led to Thai society actively paying more attention to the past.
Ittiphon Triwattanasuwan, mayor of Muang municipality, said an activity aimed at promoting local customs and the wearing of traditional dress every Tuesday was attracting many people.
The Bupphaesannivas TV series on Channel 3 is proving a huge hit, leading many Thais to dress up in traditional costume and visit historical places, particularly Wat Chaiwattanaram in Ayutthaya Historical Park.
The historical temple is one of the locations featured in the TV series, a love story set during the reign of King Narai the Great in the Ayutthaya period. He ruled from 1656-1688 CE.
