TRANG: The body of a young Irrawaddy dolphine was found floating to the east of Khang Khao island in Ta Se bay of this southern province on Sunday.
It was the fourth dolphin found dead this year.
The carcass was spotted by Khanchit Langsana, 33, a villager in Hat Samran district, who subsequently reported it to Tawan Thui-an, a member of the dolphin conservation group in Ban Ta Se.
It was a male Irrawaddy dolphin about 2-4 months old, weighing about 15 kilogrammes, 104 centimetres in length and 58cm in circumference.
A mark around the dolphin's neck indicated that it might have become trapped in a coarse fishing net.
The Irrawaddy dolphin is a species indigenous to Southeast Asia. It is classed as 'vulnerable', and is decreasing in numbers.
