Cell tower poser

Re: "When scams turn deadly", (Editorial, Sept 9) & "Suspects extradited to China", (BP, Aug 25).

There are important questions for the government that no one seems to be asking.

Why have enormous capacity 5G cell towers owned by the big three telecommunications companies been set up immediately across the border from Chinese mafia-run scammer call centres in Cambodia and Myanmar?

Why are these enormous operations, which earn billions from human-traffick slaves, scamming both Thais and foreigners conducting their business with the active support of Thai police?

Why does the government not intervene and shut down these cell towers, which only exist to serve the Chinese mafia?

Ripping off the mask

Re: "G20 struggles for consensus", (BP, Sept 9).

Amazed to see the report by Reuters, which was shrewdly manipulated and allowed to be published in the Bangkok Post. Reuters, which is a Western news agency, the voice of the West and pro-Ukraine.

I have been observing the moves adopted by Western media to make the Ukraine issue more prominent at the G20 summit in New Delhi.

I think it's time to clear the fake clouds. G20 is not a platform for focusing on political conflicts. It's a platform for economic, environmental development and sustainable energy issues. The host which was India, rightfully decided to leave out Ukraine as an issue at each session.

Secondly, I really fail to understand why Xi Jinping's absence was making headlines. Mr Xi represents an autocratic, dictatorial country, represents bullying China, which bullies weaker and smaller countries in the South China Sea and intimidates Taiwan.

There were many reasons behind his absence. First, Mr Xi knew all these nations would have attacked him with questions at press conferences, which would have been shown worldwide, resulting in shameful embarrassment. He would have been asked about the fate of Hu Jin Tao and real economic data on China's GDP.

So let's focus on real issues that have to be handled on development and how to help the Global South.

Reuters should have avoided issues on slums and monkeys in New Delhi. I hope Reuters provide articles on the number of rapes and rape cases across the UK and also the issue of unemployment and homelessness there. Reuters' sarcastic note on how New Delhi was decorated with fountains, flower pots and thousands of armed security personnel shows Reuters' real face.

Never had a chance

Re: "Give government a chance", (PostBag, Sept 12).

What chance was the Move Forward Party given? Two hundred and fifty senators appointed by the junta government told the majority of the people that the candidates they voted for would have to break their promises for reform in order to join the coalition.

Perhaps if the senators were democratically elected, you could argue they should have a say in forming the coalition government.

Any Postbag writer who would call that fair and democratic should be ashamed of himself.
