Justice at stake

Re: "Yingluck upbeat on democracy", (BP, May 23).

I am writing to express my concern regarding the relationship between our current prime minister, Srettha Thavisin, and convicted ex-prime ministers -- Yingluck and Thaksin Shinawatra. Yingluck, who lives in self-imposed exile to avoid serving a prison term in Thailand, is the sister of Thaksin. Thaksin, also a convicted ex-prime minister, maintains a close friendship with Mr Srettha, meeting him frequently. Given the prime minister's duty to uphold the law and ensure justice, it is imperative that Mr Srettha uses his position and connections to facilitate Yingluck's return to Thailand to serve her sentence. The Shinawatra family, particularly Thaksin, likely knows Yingluck's whereabouts. By failing to leverage his close relationship with Thaksin to bring Yingluck to justice, Mr Srettha is not fully committing to his responsibilities and appears to be showing favouritism toward his friend and his family.

This situation raises questions about the sincerity and integrity of our prime minister's commitment to justice and the rule of law. It is crucial for the credibility of our legal system and the trust of the Thai people that all individuals, regardless of their connections, are held accountable for their actions.

Hamas is responsible

Re: "Gastly action", (PostBag, May 27).

In Miro's letter, it is alternatively written that my letter did not justify the Palestinian genocide, and Israel doesn't listen to the international community.

These statements, used all over the world by ignorant protesters, are not true! Israel doesn't have a genocide policy in sharp contrast to Hamas: in its charter is written "kill all the Jews", nor is it ignoring the opinion of civilised nations. The Israelis don't want to eliminate the Palestinians but Hamas, a justified goal and will stop the war when Hamas is eliminated. The Geneva Convention says that using civilian institutions such as schools, clinics, and hospitals for military purposes is not a legitimate military act. Israel warns in advance of attacks, but Hamas doesn't allow the population to be evacuated. The Gazans celebrated Oct 7 when Hamas brutally attacked Israelis, and much of Gaza then suffered, but there is only one party responsible for this: Hamas! To compare Israel to Russia is denying the truth. Russia attacked Ukraine, and Hamas attacked Israel. All who know what is happening will realise that the accusation of a Palestinian genocide and comparing Mr Putin with Mr Netanyahu is absolutely bogus.

Seeing is believing

Re: "Beam me up please, Scotty", (BP, May 26).

The recent debate concerning the soothsayers, fortune tellers, miracle healers and assorted quacks has brought to my attention another sort of blatant yet apparently official heavenly quackery.

Here, Pope Francis is dispensing sainthoods like a vending machine to all and sundry. The latest is a 15-year-old deceased, with emphasis on dead and buried! Italian Carlo Acutis, who, according to Il Papa Francis, is curing people beyond his grave. This notion belongs right up there with the assorted miracle healers of Thailand. Was there a celestial frequency with five Buddhas involved, like with the couple in Udon Thani? Wake up, Pope Francis! Stick to your sermons and stop pulling the wool over our eyes. As the front page of the Post on May 26 says: "Beam me up please, Scotty".
