Gangster tip-offs

Re: "Death plunge spurs gang blitz", (BP, Jan 11). Has it ever occurred to the writers of such articles that announcing such details provides scanty but nonetheless useful information for the gangs concerned to supplement feedback from brown envelopes under the table?

Thus, having read this one, the boss(es) of the scams text fellow villains with words to the effect: "Lie low for a couple of weeks lads, the Bill is after us again, but things will slow down as usual. Go for a break in Phuket & see what can be done there, but watch out for the oppo."

Sports disservice

I am a gold subscriber to TRUE Visions, the leader in sports reruns. I would like to let them, and the Post, know that we have completed both the NCAA Bowl Championship playoffs with the championship, not available here as was the entire NCAA season, to be played Jan 21 at 7.30am (Thailand time). Also note that Joey Logano won the NASCAR Cup championship with the series, dropped long ago by TRUE, scheduled to start with the BUSCH Clash on Feb 3, followed by Dayton Duel 1 & 2 on Feb 13.

Having been a subscriber for well over a decade I have watched this once proud service become a haven for replays, B movies, and cancelled series. In that vein I would like to ask that TRUE update their logo flag to include the original run date of the many NBA, NFL, WTA, ATP and F1 programmes that now make up a majority of their programming. And let's not get into the choice of movie channels which once included HBO and Showtime.

In that vein I noticed that BeIn sports was dropped from the Gold package after Jan 1 and it would seem that the WTA/ATP Australian Open Grand Slam is scheduled to be broadcast on those channels. This is an assumption since the qualifiers and charity events were both aired on BeIn1.

I also have noted a plethora of adverts for Animax and ONE, Japanese channels, which don't seem to be available here at all.

Long ago I opted to stream a number of offshore-based services to enhance my viewing experience, but sports are mostly controlled by individual leagues and are quite expensive.

Well, I realise that no changes will be made as my single expat voice gets lost, or ignored, as long as this monopoly continues making money and doing as it's told.

But, I feel better after venting!

The mightiest felon

Re: "Trump to be sentenced before inauguration in hush money case", (World, Jan 5).

President-elect Trump has been declared a felon and will attend his inauguration with this title, rather a unique outcome given the president is meant to be the best in the country.

There are many consequences of being declared a felon, often jail, fines, or difficulty getting a job, but the one that may affect him the most is that many countries, including his own, won't accept felons, although in special cases, waivers can be granted.

A quick look at the list of such banned countries from a number of websites highlights some upcoming difficulties in achieving his "fix everything" agenda.

He is not allowed to visit Ukraine to present his solution of "just give up", but he is allowed to visit Russia, although the message there will be different. The same problem will occur in the Middle East as Israel is on the no-visits list.

He can visit Greenland but not Mexico nor Canada, the soon to be 51st US state, nor play golf in the United Kingdom. He also can't visit Australia, thankfully.
