Movie idea

Re: "Refugee's death in Thailand blamed on US aid freeze", (World, Feb 7).

Is this a supervillain film plot? "The world's richest man cuts aid to the world's poorest people."

Probably too far-fetched to get financed, right?

Haze alert in north

Re: "Farmers move to stop burning", (BP, Feb 8).

The burning season in the far North has started and residents are about to be subjected to pollution in levels far worse than Bangkok.

Despite all the talk and the orders passed from top officials to lower officials, no active mobile force has been formed to tour the mountain districts looking for the offenders.

They are quite easy to find; huge areas of slopes, black and still smoking are hard to hide, but no one has the actual job of looking and catching. The offenders are not going to turn themselves in, and until some group is formed and gets out into the burning hills, nothing will change.

Future looks bleak

Re: "Bua Noi's fate", (PostBag, Feb 8).

Prisana Nuechterlein writes far more eloquently than my past piffling efforts to support Bua Noi.

However, I fear Bua Noi's fate has already been determined unless the White House, which is currently turning the world upside down, can be lobbied to intervene. Anything seems possible nowadays.

The photo accompanying K Prisana's letter says it all.

Business as usual

Re: "Netanyahu's happy day at the White House", (World, Feb 9).

President Trump wants the Palestinians out of Gaza. So, in the next few days we can expect word from the White House that he is offering Mar-a-Lago as an option to the Gaza Strip. It's handy; on a beach and around the corner to the "American" sea.

Friend in need

Re: "BIMSTEC summit to be held April", (BP, Jan 25).

Decades ago, Thailand became the first country to establish an air link with Nepal. Nepal and Thailand are now members of BIMSTEC. Thailand's role in BIMSTEC is praiseworthy for South Asia and Asean countries.

Nepal expects its overseas friends to help with economic development, as it is sandwiched and landlocked between India and China. The geographical position has exerted pressure on the country.

The Bangkok Post needs to report more about Nepal's friendly relations with its neighbouring countries, including Thailand.

None of the governments in Nepal, including the current UML government, has promoted economic development for Nepal.

So, Nepal needs help from Thailand during the BIMSTEC forum.
