The Bangkok Military Court has approved a police request for arrest warrants for 28 people who failed to report to the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) as ordered, reports said.
The police request was filed with the court after Lt Col Burin Thongprapai, an officer of the Judge Advocate General's Department attached to the 2nd Cavalry Division, submitted a petition with Pol Col Prasopchoke Prommoon, deputy chief of the Crime Suppression Division, asking the CSD to take legal action against the 28 for defying the NCPO's summons.
The request was approved by the court.
The 28 defendants wanted under the warrants include Khanchai Boonparn, chief executive of the Matichon Group; Giles Ungphakorn, a former associate professor at the faculty of political science, Chulalongkorn University who fled to the United Kingdom after facing a lese majeste charge; Jakrapob Penkair, a former Prime Minister's office minister and lese majeste suspect who is on the run and residing overseas.
The 25 others are - Pissanu Promsorn, Niti Wichiansaen, Ong-art Thanakamolnan, Amnuay Kaewchompoo, Chupong Theethuan, Janya Yimprasert, Ekaphop Luara or Tang Acheeva, Saneh Thinsaen, Pisek Sanithangkoon, Santi Wongpaiboon, Mananchaya Ketkaew, Chatwadee Amornpat or Rose, Jutithep or Lerpong Wichaikhammat, Thanong Siripreechapong, Usman Salaemaeng, Chakart Kahabodirat, Chaipruek Samanrat, Rangsarit Thiyano, Chatchan Bupphawan, Yongyuth Boondee, Amara Wattanakul, Kasemsant Champalert, Nitach Srisuwan, Numnual Yaparat and Veerasak Towangjorn.
