Prayad takes money crown for third time

Prayad Marksaeng has been crowned the Japan Senior Tour's Order of Merit winner for the third consecutive year with three tournaments remaining.

The 52-year-old from Hua Hin became this year's money champion after finishing second behind England's Barry Lane at the Fujifilm Senior Championship on Sunday.

A joint overnight leader after two rounds, the Thai shot a three-under-par 68 in the third and final round for a total of eight-under 205.

Lane was on fire on the final day, hitting a seven-under 64 to win on 203.

Although he failed to win his sixth title of the year and 13th since he joined the tour in 2016, the result was enough for him to take the 2018 Order of Merit crown.

With three events remaining this season, Prayad cannot be caught.

This year, Prayad has won a record ¥75.36 million (approximately 22 million baht) in prize money after 11 events and become the first-ever golfer to win five titles on the Japan Senior Tour.

American Gregory Meyer is second on the money list with ¥27.21 million and South Korea's Kim Jong-Duck third with ¥24.91 million.

Prayad will skip all the remaining three events to join the Champions Tour's qualifying round in the US later this month.

Compatriot Thaworn Wiratchant finished tied for sixth at the Fujifilm Senior Championship and is now fifth in the money race.
