Ratchanok Intanon and Busanan Ongbamrungphan will square off for a place in the quarter-finals of the US$400,000 Indonesia Masters in Jakarta on Thursday.
Fourth seed Ratchanok defeated China's Cai Yanyan 21-15, 21-17 while Busanan beat fellow Thai Pornpawee Chochuwong 21-17, 16-21, 21-11 to progress to the last 16 of the BWF World Tour Super 500 event.
The other two Thai players in the women's singles event -- Nitchaon Jindapol and Porntip Buranaprasertsuk -- bowed out on Wednesday.
Nitchaon fell to Carolina Marin 13-21, 15-21 while qualifier Porntip lost to sixth seed He Bingjiao 19-21, 18-21.
Triple world champion Marin will play third seed Nozomi Okuhara of Japan while China's He will face Kim Ga-Eun of South Korea in the last 16 round on Thursday.
It was an emotional return to the Istora Senayan stadium for Spain's Marin. It was a year ago, at this venue, that Marin collapsed in agony as her right knee gave way under her. Her worst fears were confirmed -- it was a ruptured ACL, in most cases a career-threatening injury.
And yet, here she was, five months into an astonishing comeback that has seen her capture the Victor China Open and the Syed Modi International, besides making the final at the French Open, and semi-finals in Denmark and Malaysia.
There's some unfinished business here. Last year Marin retired while leading in the final against Saina Nehwal of India. This time she wants to go all the way to the title. "I want to win here. This is something I wanted from last year when I got my injury."
Women's top seed Chen Yufei, who won the Malaysia Masters on Sunday, exited at the first hurdle after losing to Line Hojmark Kjaersfeldt of Denmark 18-21, 14-21. Title-holder Nehwal also bowed out as she lost to Sayaka Takahashi of Japan 21-19, 13-21, 5-21.
