Patama Leeswadtrakul said on Wednesday she wants to see a majority of Thai people fit some regular exercise into their daily routine.

She was speaking at a public hearing organised by the national reform committee on culture, sports, labour and human resources.

The panel is chaired by Prof Dr Nithi Mahanon with Khunying Patama being chairwoman of the subcommittee on sports.

There are 12 other national reform committees on various issues including politics, economy and education.

Patama said all Thais must get equal opportunities to do exercise and play sports.

"We aim for 50 percent of Thais to do exercise in the next two years," she said.

There should be enough sports facilities for people around the country, said Patama, who is also a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and president of the Badminton Association of Thailand (BAT).

She said the committee will push for a "sports city" in every province.

As for sports for competition, the country needs more knowledgeable personnel, Patama said.

The provincial sports associations should help find young stars for the national teams, she said.

Meanwhile, Patama said the BAT is interested in bringing three big tournaments to Thailand.

The Badminton World Federation (BWF) recently unveiled its latest calendar reshuffle.

The Thomas Cup and Uber Cup retain their Oct 3-11 spot in Aarhus, Denmark, followed by two further events in Odense, also in Denmark.

The BWF will then attempt to round off the season with two Super 1000 tournaments and the World Tour Finals in consecutive weeks from Nov 10 in Asian locations that are yet to be announced.

According to Patama, Indonesia and Hong Kong are also interested in hosting the events.
