Thailand stunned Turkey in a five-set thriller in their opening match of the 2022 FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship in Arnhem on Saturday.
The victory ended Thailand's run of five successive losses against their sixth-ranked opponents, with the latest being at the 2022 FIVB Nations League quarter-finals in July.
Outside hitter Chatchu-On Moksri hammered out 33 points as Thailand claimed a nail-biting 3-2 (17-25, 31-29, 22-25, 25-19, 15-13) victory in Pool B at the GelreDome.
Pimpichaya Kokram chipped in 17 points.
Turkey's Ebrar Karakurt was her team's highest scorer with 24 points, followed by Hande Baladin on 17.
"I don't know what to say. My heart is full of happiness after winning this match today because we worked and trained very hard before it," said Chatchu-on after the victory.
"I want to thank all my teammates for helping each other and playing a fantastic game. We wanted to put in our best performance in the style of volleyball that we love, no matter if we won or lost."
"I would like to thank everyone for working together tonight," said Thailand coach Danai Wacharasrimaytakul.
"It was a tough game. Turkey have a high block and also a very strong attack but our players put on a great performance especially in the fifth set and we managed to get the win tonight."
"We had to make some changes because the cold conditions inside the arena had given cramps to 3-4 players," added Danai.
"I would like to also thank the fans back home in Thailand for their support. We will do our best in all of our matches."
In the other match of Pool B on Saturday, the Dominican Republic defeated South Korea 3-0 (25-19, 25-12, 25-15).
In Pool A, Belgium claimed a 3-0 (25-15, 27-25, 25-15) win over of Puerto Rico while Italy mastered a 3-0 (25-10, 25-12, 25-16) sweep of Cameroon.
In Pool C, United States defeated Kazakhstan 3-0 (25-16, 25-13, 25-22) while Brazil beat the Czech Republic 3-1 (25-20, 25-16, 22-25, 25-18) in Pool D.
