Thai Olympic chief Gen Prawit Wongsuwon said football boss Pol Gen Somyot Poompunmuang should take responsibility for the U22 team's failure to win the gold medal at the 32nd SEA Games final and a brawl that marred the men's final in Cambodia.
Indonesia beat Thailand 5-2 after extra time in Phnom Penh but the match degenerated into violence as players and staff from both sides clashed on the touchline.
A panel set up by the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) later handed out a one-year ban from the national team to goalkeeping coach Prasobchoke Chokemoh and team officials Mayeed Mudhadum and Pattrawut Wongsripuek.
Goalkeeper Soponwit Rakyart, who was red carded during the brawl, was banned from the national team for six months while substitute Thirapak Prueangna was also given a six-month suspension.
Speaking during an annual meeting of the National Olympic Committee of Thailand (NOCT) on Friday, which mainly focused on the national team's performance at the Cambodia tournament, Prawit said the brawl has damaged the reputation of Thailand and all of its sport bodies.
"I said before the SEA Games that if the team didn't get the gold medal, the football chief should step down," said Prawit. "So now I ask if he would take responsibility and quit his post?
"And then there was a brawl during the final against Indonesia, which wasn't the first time for our national football team. I find this is unacceptable.
"What happened has ruined the reputation of our country. It was broadcast live all around the world and it was embarrassing."
Prawit added, "I don't want an action of one particular sport body to ruin it for all the other sport bodies. All the people involved must take responsibility, the president, the coach and the team staff as well."
