
Top seeds Miyu Kato of Japan and Aldila Sutjiadi of Indonesia beat second seeds Jiang Xinyu and Guo Hanyu of China 6-4, 1-6, 10-7 in the doubles final of the WTA Thailand Open in Hua Hin on Sunday.
Kato and Sutjiadi raced to a 5-1 lead in the opening set, but the Chinese duo took three games in a row before the top-seeded pair were able to wrap up the set 6-4.
Guo and Jiang were at their best in the second set which they dominated 6-1 to force the deciding third set, a marathon in which Kato and Sutjiadi eventually prevailed 10-7.
"We played together well and it was a close match," said Kato and Sutjiadi. "We came back well in the third set and are delighted to win this tournament here."
Miyu and Aldila received US$12,820 (448,700 baht), while Guo and Jiang took home $7,210 (252,350 baht).
France progress in Davis Cup
France booked their place in the group stages of the Davis Cup after completing a 4-0 win over Taiwan in Taipei on Sunday.
Already leading 2-0 from Saturday's singles, France secured their passage when Nicolas Mahut and Edouard Roger-Vasselin came back from a set down to beat Yu Hsiou-hsu and Jason Jung 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7/1).
"We were perhaps a little timid at the start," said Roger-Vasselin. "We stayed calm. We knew our level of play was going to change."
Quentin Halys rounded off the French victory with a 6-3, 7-6 (7/3) win over Chun Hsin-tseng.
Serbia, Netherlands, Finland, Germany, Brazil, USA and holders Canada also qualified over the weekend. afp
