Nawaphon ready for Rey

Flyweight Nawaphon Sor Rungvisai will fight Rey Migreno of the Philippines on Tuesday with the aim of securing a bout against WBC champion Pongsaklek Wonjongkam.

Nawaphon, who is the younger brother of WBC super-flyweight champion Suriyan Sor Rungvisai, is taking on veteran Migreno in the first defence of his WBC Asia flyweight title in Sumut Prakan and if he wins convincingly he will then be assured of a fight against compatriot Pongsaklek.

"The negotiations to fight Pongsaklek will be conducted immediately if he beats Migreno," said Nawaphon's manager Suchart Pisitwutthinan.

His 25-year-old opponent is used to fighting talented Thais including Pongsaklek, WBA super-flyweight champion Tepparith Singwangcha and former world champion Denkaosan Kaovichit and he will therefore be a big test for the unbeaten but inexperienced Nawaphon (6-0, 5KOs).

However, Suchart believes that Nawaphon has the potential to follow his brother's steps and go on to beat Pongsaklek, who controversially defeated Suriyan last year.

"At that time, no one thought Suriyan could fight Pongsaklek competitively. But he did and lost by just one point," he said.

"I will get Nawaphon to take revenge for his brother."

The Nawaphon-Migreno fight will be held at a makeshift stadium in Samut Prakan's Phra Pradaeng district and will be shown live on Channel 3 from 2pm.
