Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin gave his moral support to the Football Association of Thailand (FAT), hoping it will be successful in raising 9 million baht for the national football team if they win the 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifier match with South Korea tonight.
The nine million baht will come solely from donations to FAT, according to a post on Mr Srettha's X account on Sunday.
He also posted a series of pictures showing a player training session for the Asian section qualification match at Rajamangala National Stadium.
Later yesterday, Mr Srettha announced via X that he would attend the match at the National Stadium, adding that he expected FAT to support the players as much as it could. "As a football fan, I feel excited for [today's] match, and I will cheer the national team from the stadium," he said in his post.
The Thai national football team, ranked 101 in the world, is again scheduled to take on South Korea, ranked 22nd, in the second round of the Asian Zone Group C qualifying tournament after playing them first in Seoul on March 21, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
The second qualification match with South Korea at the National Stadium tonight begins at 7.30pm and will be televised via Thairath TV and the team's YouTube and Facebook accounts: Changsuek Official.
Nuanphan Lamsam, FAT president, said that two main entrances to the stadium will be open tonight to receive football fans. The entrances will open at 4.30pm, three hours before the game, to ease congestion concerns.
