World No.184 Lanlana Tararudee of the host country advanced to the second round of the Allied Thailand Open tennis tournament with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over compatriot Thasaporn Naklo at Arena Hua Hin yesterday.
Both Lanlana and Thasaporn were awarded wildcard entries into the main draw of the WTA 250 event.
Lanlana started off well in the first set when she hit two aces to whitewash her opponent with ease.
In the second set, the 20-year-old Lanlana kept the momentum and dominated Thasaporn again, winning 6-1 to wrap up the match.
Lanlana will face the winner of the match between tournament top seed Dayana Yastremska of Ukraine, who won the 2019 edition of the Thailand Open, and Japanese Mai Hontama.
In the other matches, Germany's world No.99 Laura Siegemund moved into the next round, defeating Alycia Parks from the United States 6-4, 6-3.
Siegemund will face the fifth seed Wang Xiyu of China in the second round. Wang recorded a comfortable 7-5, 6-1 victory over Swiss world No.98 Viktorija Golubic.
World No.66 Varvara Gracheva of France defeated the Australian world No.140 Taylah Preston 6-1, 6-4 in one hour and 19 minutes. Second seed Katerina Siniakova of Czech Republic beat Australian world No.115 Arina Rodionova 7-5, 6-1.
