Buriram United will be out to strengthen their claim for a knockout stage spot and, in the process, end Ulsan HD's hopes when the two sides meet in the AFC Champions League Elite tonight.

Thai League 1 champions Buriram United were in eighth spot after six rounds of matches, while South Korean champions Ulsan HD were in 11th place ahead of their 7pm game.

One point from a possible nine in their last three matches has derailed Buriram's fast start to their campaign and the Thunder Castle will be hoping to turn the corner tonight.

They are well placed to defend their Thai League 1 title and will have the advantage of being battle hardened when they face Ulsan.

Ulsan, despite clinching a third consecutive league title last season, have endured a mixed campaign that not only saw them losing their first five matches on the continental stage but also suffering defeat in the Korean FA Cup final to Pohang Steelers.

Angels meet Sydney

In an AFC Champions League Two game, Bangkok United will face Sydney in the first leg of their last 16 round tie today.

The Australian club finished second in Group E, while Bangkok United cruised into the knockout stages after topping Group G.

Angels coach Totchtawan Sripan told a pre-match conference yesterday at Sydney Football Stadium: "The goal is to win this game. We will be ready for the game. Sydney FC are a quality team. Their players play really well, especially in attack."

The match will kick off at 3pm (Thai time) today at Sydney Football Stadium.

Uthai trounce Nongbua

Hosts Uthai Thani put on a stellar show at home in a Thai League 1 game on Monday night to rout Nongbua Pitchaya 3-0.

Benjamin Davis (39), Tiago Alves (41) and Aung Thu (78) got on the scoresheet for Uthai Thani, who moved up to eighth place on the table with 28 points from 20 matches. Nongbua Pitchaya remained in 14th place with 21 points.
