Cycling chief Gen Decha Hemkrasi was happy with the Thai riders' performance as the 44th Asian Road Cycling Championships reached its halfway stage at Bueng Si Fai in Phichit on Tuesday.
The Thai riders have so far won six gold, one silver and five bronze medals and are on top of the overall medal standings.
"I'm happy with our riders' stats in this competition. They have had better results than many other Asean rivals. Pittaporn Sae-tan, who finished fourth in the women's U23 time trial event, outperformed riders from the Philippines and Indonesia. This means that Thai cyclists have a good chance of winning medals in the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand later this year," said Gen Decha, president of the Thai Cycling Association.
Thailand failed to claim a medal for the second successive day as Peerapol Chawchiangkawang came fifth with a time of 52.19.224 minutes in the 42.8km men's elite individual time trial event on Tuesday. The Thai, however, was the top Southeast Asian rider in the category.
Former world champ Yevgeniy Fedorov of Kazakhstan won gold in 49.12.419 minutes. Fedorov's teammate Dmitriy Gruzdev took silver and Taiwanese Chun Kai Feng grabbed bronze.
