Former WBA strawweight champion Pornsawan Porpramook will face unbeaten Japanese Ryo Miyazaki in the Thai's attempt to win back the 105-pound title on Dec 31.
Ranked fourth in the division, the 34-year-old will take on Miyazaki, who is 10 years younger, in a vacant WBA straw-weight championship in Osaka.
The crown is available after Kazuto Ioka moved up to the light-flyweight division.
Pornsawan's manager Niwat Laosuwanwat insisted his boxer, at age 34, is not too old to regain the straw-weight title.
"He is more experienced and has a high chance of winning back the title," he said.
Pornsawan (26-4-1, 16KOs) won the WBA belt in July 2011 with a split decision over Muhammad Rachman in Indonesia.
Three months later, he lost the title after being stopped by Akira Yaegashi in the 10th round in Japan.
Second-ranked Miyazaki, is a former OPBF light-flyweight (108 pound) title-holder and has an unblemished record of 17 wins (10KOs).
On the same day in Tokyo, Thailand's Tepparith Kokietgym (21-2, 13KOs) will defend his WBA super-flyweight title against Japan's Kohei Kono (27-7, 10KOs).
It will be the fourth title defence for the 23-year-old Thai, who fought his last three bouts in Japan.
Kono, 31, is currently ranked 14th in the 115-pound division.
