The nice folks who make the Preton print utility are giving away a version of the program that will save you precious ink.

The ink-saving utility is simplicity itself to use, and probably will save you precious printing ink.
I'm always a little sceptical of programs like Preton.
But in fact you probably will get somewhere between a few and a lot more pages of printing if you use Preton with your inkjet printer.
At today's ink cartridge prices, even for refills, every few pages can help.
Preton works simply enough. You install it and run it. It sits between you (i.e. all your programs) and your printer, and fiddles with the printer in very tiny ways as you print.
You can set the program easily to give savings, or you can tweak it constantly, your choice. As you should see from the screen shot, it's pretty easy.
Your order to print is routed automatically through the Preton software for processing.
It's Preton that finally passes the document, graphic, whatever to your printer, after it makes the adjustments necessary to save ink.
As time goes by you see your printer's output, and guesstimates of how much ink you've saved.
In addition to the general settings you can see in the screenshot unless the editor misplaced it again, you can click on the "Process Setting" tab and turn the utility on-or-off for every open program.
That is, you could tell Preton to save ink for the big Word document you are working on for the boss, but go all-out on ink use when printing photos from your image editor, say.
To get Preton, you must give a real email address, because the company will send you a return email with your program activation key, and a download link.
Click the link, and download a small setup program. The setup then downloads the real program and installation package.
You paste or type in your registration and that's it.
Have a look at the program and start the process to download it at tinyurl.com/6etguv8.
