BEIJING: Chinese electronics giant Oppo has signed Maye Musk, the mother of Elon Musk, as the global ambassador for the brand's flagship smartphone - Find X6 Pro.

The 75-year-old model and dietitian will appear in a series of commercials and events to promote the Find X6 Pro, which is being touted as the best camera smartphone in the world. Photos from the first official shoot recently surfaced on the internet along with a video ad that was leaked on YouTube.

In the commercial, Maye can be seen holding a toy plane, talking about her adventure-filled childhood and how her three children, including Elon, have inherited her perseverance to constantly grow. She even quips about how she hopes "it takes them to space and beyond".

It should be noted that Oppo has not officially released the commercial or pictures from the photo shoot.

Oppo's move to sign Maye as a brand ambassador for the Find X6 Pro smartphone has come as a surprise to many, but the brand might want to utilise the popular Musk name as an effective promotional tool.

However, it would be unfair to conclude that was the only reason behind Oppo choosing Maye. After all, she has had a modelling career spanning over 50 years.

The Oppo Find X6 Pro was launched in China in March this year. The flagship product comes with top-end specifications and features in a bid to compete with the best and most expensive smartphones in the market. It has even been recognised as the world's best camera smartphone by camera benchmarking platform Dxomark.

Dxomark gave Oppo's flagship device a total camera score of 153 points in its test, beating the likes of the Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max and Google Pixel 7 Pro to take the first spot. The smartphone comes with Hasselblad cameras at the back, featuring a 50MP primary sensor with OIS, a 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens and a 50MP telephoto lens.

Other specifications include a 6.82-inch Amoled 120Hz display, the Snapdragon 8 Gen2 chipset and a 5,000mAh battery with 100W fast-charging support.

What do we know about Maye Musk?

Not only has Maye played an important role throughout Elon's career, supporting him even in the most difficult times, she also has a successful modelling career that started more than 50 years ago.

Born in Canada on April 19, 1948, Maye moved to South Africa when she was a toddler and became a finalist in the 1969 Miss South Africa beauty competition.

After quitting for a few years, she resumed her modelling journey when she moved to Canada after divorcing Elon's father Errol Musk.

Over the years, Maye has appeared on the covers of dozens of magazines, including a Time magazine health edition, international editions of Vogue and even a Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue.

In addition to being a successful model, Maye is also a dietitian with a PhD on the subject and a successful author.
