DNA test confirms Banyin is the dad

Ex-commerce minister Banyin Tangpakorn is the father of the three-month-old daughter of former financial broker Uracha Wachirakulton, a person of interest in the case of construction tycoon Chuwong Sae Tang's death, according to a DNA test result.

The result was revealed yesterday by a high-ranking source at the Royal Police Office.

The test results were signed by Pol Maj Gen Thawatchai Mekprasoetsuk, chief of the Central Police Forensic Science Division, said the source.

"The result has been forwarded to the Crime Suppression Division," the source said.

The CSD is gathering evidence in the Chuwong murder case. The businessman was killed in a car crash in which Pol Lt Col Banyin was the driver in Jun 26 last year.

Chuwong's family raised doubts over his death after news emerged that the businessman's shares worth 260 million baht were transferred to the accounts of Srithana Promma, Uracha Wachirakulton's mother, and Kanthana Siwathanapol, a golf caddie.

Ms Uracha is a former broker at AEC Securities Plc, who took care of Chuwong's stock account.

Pol Lt Col Banyin, together with the three women, is facing charges of stealing Chuwong's shares. The former commerce minister has also been charged with the premeditated murder of Chuwong.

CSD investigators suspect Pol Lt Col Banyin, 53, has an intimate relationship with 27-year-old Uracha, which could be the motive behind the killing.

Pol Lt Col Banyin, who denied the charge, insisted he never gave a DNA sample to the police.

However, Pol Col Jirapob Puridet, chief of CSD subdivision 1, said Mr Banyin had allowed police to take his DNA samples from his mouth when he gave his account of the accident at Udom Suk police station.

Ms Uracha also denied having given police her DNA sample.

Pol Col Jirapob said experts collected her DNA samples from personal items belonging to the woman. He did not elaborate.

Meanwhile, the CSD is checking a car Ms Uracha used on suspicion it had fake registration numbers, after police found they belonged to another car, Pol Col Jirapob said.

Pol Lt Col Banyin has insisted he never had a close relationship with Ms Uracha.
