NBTC temporarily suspends CTH licence

The broadcasting regulator on Monday decided to suspend the licence of CTH for 30 days after the cable television firm ignored a call for plans to help members.

The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) handed down the 30-day penalty in a meeting on Monday, with a possibility for CTH Cable TV Co to face stiffer punishment in the future.

NBTC deputy secretary-general Pakdee Manaves said the firm has to follow the order by ending the broadcast for 30 days after it is sent to the company in seven days. Maximum penalties are on the cards if the struggling broadcaster still ignores the relief plan, he added.

CTH has been ordered to submit the plan to help members. It also faces a daily fine of 20,000 baht, with a retroactive effect from Aug 17.

The company had asked the NBTC to give it more time to submit the plan but the move was turned down.

CTH already stopped airing its programmes on the C-band system on Feb 1, followed by KU-band on Sept 1.
