PATTAYA: Tourists have been warned to steer clear of countless tiny jellyfish that have been washed ashore along Jomtien beach in Bang Lamung district on Saturday.
The jellyfish, 1-2 centimetres long, blanketed the two-kilometre beach of Pattaya and the seawater where it lapped the sand.
Local vendors said the jellyfish started to surface on Friday and were an annual phenomenon. They warned visitors not to swim in the area and were cleaning the beach of the sea creatures.
Surasan Khwandee, a local beach safety official, said that the tiny jellyfish made swimmers' skin itchy. Pattaya City already has put up warning signs and its staff are offering advice to visitors.
He said that local officials would be collecting the jellyfish daily.
Trat province experienced swarms of larger box jellyfish, which can cause more painful and potentially fatal stings, earlier this month.
