Tax dodge suspects summoned

The first group of 15 suspects in the current supercar import-tax evasion scandal will be summoned to answer to their criminal charges next week, according to the Special Investigation Department (DSI).

These 15 people and legal entities are connected with Niche Cars Group and STT Auto Car Co, which is owned by luxury car importer Intarasak Techaterasiri, said DSI chief Paisit Wongmuang yesterday.

They were allegedly involved in a scandal in which the prices of imported luxury cars were falsely declared, he said.

The process of pressing charges against these suspects is set to begin tomorrow, he added.

As for the two supercars found to have been illegally re-exported from Thailand to Hong Kong in a suspected attempt to avoid having them inspected, he said the cars have already been returned to Thailand at the request of authorities.

He said he planned to travel to inspect the retrieved cars on Friday.

Customs Department's deputy director-general Chaiyut Kumkun said late last month authorities found the two luxury cars -- believed to have been stolen from the UK and smuggled into Thailand -- were re-exported earlier, in the same month, to Hong Kong.

They were re-exported upon request by a company that had submitted the proper re-export documents.

Mr Intarasak, known as "Boy Unity", yesterday attended a hearing in a criminal case he brought against the DSI, Pol Col Paisit and 13 other DSI investigators for allegedly violating Section 157 of the Criminal Code, which deals with acts of abuse of authority, intrusion and making false statements before the court.

On June 14, Mr Intarasak was detained shortly after he left the Criminal Court, where he filed the lawsuit against the DSI officers.

The lawsuit comes in response to DSI raids on two of his STT Autocar Co showrooms on Ratchadaphisek and Sukhumvit roads on May 24.

DSI officials seized 34 vehicles from the showrooms.
