KANCHANABURI: Twenty Myanmar migrant workers have been arrested for illegally sneaking into the country in Muang district.

A military task force led by Col Pichet Hassapong was deployed to a border area in tambon Ban Kao on Friday following information that a group of illegal Myanmar workers would enter the country via a natural border pass to work as hired hands in this western province.

The task force was divided into two teams to surround a forest area. They later spotted 20 Myanmar workers, all men, hiding in the area. All, who were of the working age, failed to present official entry documents when asked.

They confessed to having entered the country illegally to work at factories in this border province. A job broker told them to wait in the area as someone would be sent to pick them up, they said.

The task force handed over all migrant workers to Muang police station to face illegal entry charges. They would later be deported.
