The Catholic community is putting the finishing touches to their preparations for this week's visit of Pope Francis -- the second visit of a pontiff to Thailand in over 35 years following that of Pope Saint John Paul II in 1984.
An open-air popemobile, embroidered robes made of Thai silk, and an elaborate chalice are among the items to be used by the Pope who will conduct two Holy Masses for Catholics at the National Stadium and Christian youth at the Assumption Cathedral. In a video released on Friday ahead of the visit, Pope Francis expressed hope that his visit will underline the importance of inter-religious dialogue, service to the poor, and peace.

A chalice, made in France in 1846, will be used during the Eucharistic celebration at the National Stadium.
