NAKHON PHANOM: Narcotics suppression police on Monday seized 122,000 smuggled methamphetamine pills found behind bushes on a roadside in Na Wa district of this northeastern border province.

Pol Lt Gen Charoenwit Sriwanich, commissioner of the Provincial Police Region 4, told reporters patrols had been increased following information that smuggling of marijuana and methamphetamine across the Mekong from Laos is increasing now the river is so shallow.

On Monday a patrol found a fertiliser sack behind bushes on the side of the road between Unyang Kham and Unna villages in tambon Na Wa. The sack held 22 packages containing about 122,000 meth pillls in total, with a street value of about 30 million baht.

About 7 million meth pills and 5 tonnes of marijuana were seized in Nakhon Phanom last year after being smuggled across the river, Pol Lt Gen Charoenwit said.
