PRACHIN BURI: A two-metre crocodile seen sunbathing near a canal in Kabin Buri district on Monday has been captured, to the relief of local residents.

A hunting team from Pasak Julasid dam on Tuesday resumed the search from the previous night and found one crocodile emerged from the canal.

The Kraithong crocodile hunting team then captured the reptile with an electric device before taking ashore. The crocodile was large and could attack people.

Ayuwat Anuttraariyakul, chief of Kabin Buri fisheries office, said the crocodile might come from a natural water source since there were no crocodile farms in the area. It was unlikely the reptile had escaped from a crocodile farm in other areas.

He believed at least two crocodiles might be in the canal following information from local residents.

Earlier, Pongsak Sa-nguansil, assistant Kabin sub-district chief, alerted the district fisheries office that a large crocodile was spotted sunbathing near the canal on Monday afternoon.

Officials went to the scene and found traces of the crocodile near the canal. The fisheries office then sought help from the Pasak Jolasid dam’s suppression and prevention unit, which sent the Kraithong crocodile hunting team to the area.

The team began the search on Monday night by laying nets to narrow downe the area, but failed to find the reptile. The search ended at 11pm before the team resumed the search and managed to capture it on Tuesday.
