SA KAEO: A man was arrested for possessing more than 1,000 marijuana plants found growing on land near a national park in Watthana Nakhon district on Friday morning.

Local police, immigration officers and local officials detained Supachai Boonpro, 46, of Udon Thani province at his farm near Pang Sida National Park in tambon Chong Kum of Watthana Nakhon district.

He had no ownership documents for the six rai of land. The 1,200 plants were uprooted, and weighed about 525kg in total.

Mr Supachai allegedly admitted he owed the marijuana plants.  He was charged with illegal possession of a Type 5 narcotic.

Pol Col Jaturaphat Singhatsathit, superintendent for investigation at Sa Kaeo provincial police office, said the raid followed a tip-off that marijuana was being illegally grown on land plot near Pang Sida National Park.

Mr Supachai was taken to Nong Makfai police station in Watthana Nakhon district for legal action. A urine test returned negative for drug use.
