Many Thais and foreign nationals have booked tickets online to visit Khon Kaen Zoo, which will reopen and offer free admission tomorrow until June 30 now that authorities have ended most Covid-19 lockdown restrictions.
Natural Resources and Environment Minister Varawut Silpa-archa said on Friday that seven zoos could reopen, with no entry fees, until the end of the month.
They are the Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Chon Buri, Chiang Mai Zoo, Nakhon Ratchasima Zoo, Songkhla Zoo, Khon Kaen Zoo, Ubon Ratchathani Zoo and the Elephant Nature Park in Surin.
An informal survey found bookings at Khon Kaen via the Eventpop mobile application and website had drawn attention from many people.
Pranee Thongsamdaeng, of Si Sa Ket, said she and her colleagues booked their visit yesterday after learning the Natural Resources and Environment Ministry had confirmed the reopening of zoos across the country.
The online booking procedure was not complicated, she said, adding her family was looking forward to the outing after being stuck at home for a long time as part of the nationwide campaign to reduce the spread of Covid-19.
Her nieces and nephews want to see white lions, hippopotamuses, slender-tailed meerkats and giraffes before the opening of the new school term, Ms Pranee said.
Khon Kaen Zoo director Thanachon Khensing said each online booking will be for a maximum of four visitors.
