Motorcyclist badly hurt when hit by train

RATCHABURI: A 44-year-old man was severely injured when he rode his motorcycle through a railway crossing and was struck by a locomotive in Ban Phong distict, Ratchaburi on Friday afternoon.

The accident happened at about 1.20pm at the barrier crossing behind Wat Hua Hin temple in tambon Nakhon Chum, said Pol Maj Charoenya Puriso, a duty officer at Ban Phong police station.

A man, identified later as Pati Yindee, 44, of Ban Phong district, was found lying beside the tracks with broken legs when police and rescue workers arrived at the scene. They also found a crushed motorcycle in the area. The locomotive with no carriages stopped nearby.

According to a police investigation, the man worked at a factory in Ratchaburi and was riding home when the incident happened. When arriving at the barrier crossing, Mr Pati, who was wearing a full-face helmet, might not hear the honking of the approaching locomotive. He tried to get around the barrier and was hit.
