SURIN: An 18-wheel trailer truck veered off the road and crashed into a tree and power pole in Prasat district late on Monday night, killing the woman passenger, police said.
The accident occurred near kilometre marker 1 on Prasat-Surin road near Na Sam village in tambon Chua Phloeng, Pol Capt Seni Chimngam, Prasart duty officer, said.
The front of the truck cabin was caved in, rescuers used hydraulic jacks to force it open and extract the trapped driver and woman passenger.
The driver, Narong Ngoichan, 35, sustained extensive non-life threatening injuries. His passenger, Yayisa Ruangsuksud, 36, was dead with a major head injury and her left arm severed.
Police were investigating the cause of the accident.
