A House sub-committee on economic and security matters has plans for a youth-camp project to encourage young people to acquire knowledge about space technologies.
Bhumjaithai Party MP Settapong Malisuwan -- in his capacity as a chairman of the House sub-committee under the House committee on communications, telecommunications and digital economy and society -- said the House sub-committee is determined to provide opportunities for students to more easily access space knowledge and the latest developments in the field.
State agency staff were invited to discuss the space camp programme, among them Krit Kunplin, of the US Space & Rocket Centre; Soemsak Yooyen, dean of International Academy of Aviation Industry of King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL); Tatiya Chuentragun, deputy director of Geo-informatics and Space Technology Development Agency; and students from Discover Thailand's Astronaut Scholarship programme (DTAS).
Mr Settapong said the development of space affairs requires collaboration between the state and private sectors. The House sub-committee will also promote an aerospace engineer academic programme initiated by KMITL's International Academy of Aviation Industry. He cited cooperation between Thai and US agencies in regard to the DTAS programme and space affairs.
Mr Settapong said a Thai working team visited the US last month. Among US officials the team met was Dan Irwin, co-founder and director of NASA SERVIR, which uses geospatial data for sustainable agriculture.
