At least four more people, three of them in Bangkok, have been scammed by the bogus phone vendor gang being held responsible for the suicide of a 19-year-old student earlier this week, according to the cybercrime investigators.
The Cyber Crime Investigation Division 5 (CCID5) yesterday questioned Dokkaew Kaewjerm, 22, who was detained on suspicion she is part of the scam gang that drove a Mathayom 6 (Grade 12) student to hang herself.
The student wired the shop run by the gang 20,500 baht to buy an iPhone but never received the phone.
Distressed her mother might reprimand her for being cheated, she hanged herself at her home in Nakhon Si Thammarat on Monday. Police found the remittances were made to Ms Dokkaew's bank account.
Yesterday, Pol Maj Gen Charin Kopatta, the CCID5 commander, said Ms Dokkaew, who was nabbed in Chaiyaphum, claimed she was hired for 300 baht to open the mule account, although the police do not believe her. Checks found she also owns at least two more bank accounts.
The commander said Ms Dokkaew's money trail revealed four more people had transferred their money to her account. Three live in Huai Khwang, Hua Mak and Bukkalo areas of Bangkok and the fourth in Nakhon Si Thammarat.
Ms Dokkaew has been charged with fraud and violation of computer crime law. Warrants have also been issued for the arrest of three other suspects.
