Three Chinese tourists were injured when a tour boat hit a navy ferry in the Chao Phraya River near a pier in Phra Nakhon district of Bangkok late Thursday afternoon.
The incident happened at 4.50pm when the longtailed tour boat carrying Chinese tourists rammed into the navy craft at the pier on Maharaj Road.
The impact of the crash left three Chinese tourists — one man and two women — injured.
Staff and officials rushed to help the injured and send them to a hospital. There were no reports of missing people.
The tour boat was damaged and sank at the scene while the navy ferry was slightly damaged.
Work is expected to begin later to salvage the tour boat.
Tourism and Sports Minister Sermsak Pongpanit said he already sent a letter to the Chinese ambassador to express regret over the accident.
He said the ministry is actively working with related authorities to identify and implement preventive measures to avoid such incidents in the future, particularly regulators who responsible for safety measures enforcement, such as the Marine Department and cruise operators.
For the latest update of this incident, he said four Chinese travellers were released from hospital and were scheduled to return to China on Friday, as they have only minor injury.
