PM to push 11 soft power industries, B4 trillion eyed

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin is ready to build on the success of the "Thacca Splash -- Soft Power Forum 2024" by encouraging 11 soft power industries to generate 4 trillion baht for the country in four years, according to government spokesman Chai Wacharonke.

Mr Chai said Thursday the prime minister is looking to create an ecosystem that will allow Thai soft power industries to grow and workers' skills to improve.

The move will be built on the success of Thacca Splash -- Soft Power Forum 2024, which was held late last month, he said.

According to Mr Chai, the forum was a great stage for exchanging ideas, experiences, and activities, which led to the government's crystallisation of related policies.

The event, which was well received by the audience and participants of all ages, was a crucial step in promoting Thailand's 11 creative industries on the global scene in a concerted way, he said.

The 11 industries include books, films, design, tourism, music, gaming, festivals, art & culture, fashion & craftsmanship, and sports.

The government also aims to improve the skills of workers in these industries.

Among the initiatives are the "One Village One Thai Food Chef" project, which aims to produce 6,500 food service personnel for the industry this year and 15,000 next year.

Muay Thai will also be promoted through the export of instructors and equipment.

Local materials and unique designs by Thai craftsmen will be encouraged in the fashion industry.

Thai music artists and songs will be pushed on the world stage, with their intellectual property protected, Mr Chai said.

The government is also looking to turn gamers into income by organising E-sports events to make Thailand the region's gaming centre.

Mr Chai said the government expects its soft power strategy to generate at least 4 trillion baht over the next four years, easing average household income to at least 200,000 baht a year.

"The government will cooperate with various parties to boost the quality of workers in all industries, increase local opportunities, and provide financial stability."
