Three suspects charged

The police have pressed charges against three individuals connected to the excursion bus inferno tragedy, in which 20 school children and three teachers were killed.

National police chief Pol Gen Kitrat Phanphet chaired a two-hour meeting yesterday with high-ranking police officers to discuss the progress in the investigation into the bus fire.

The meeting took place at Khu Khot Police Station in Pathum Thani's Lam Luk Ka district.

Pol Gen Kitrat said charges have been filed against three suspects: the bus driver, the vehicle owner, and the owner of the tour bus company.

The investigators said more people may also be sought for prosecution.

He said the investigation, expected to be completed by next week, will determine whether other parties connected to the bus, such as the gas system installation company, transport officials, and engineers, are also liable for criminal action.

The investigation has made progress, and authorities are awaiting the forensic report next week.

Pol Gen Kitrat assured that the investigation was being carried out thoroughly and transparently.

Six teachers and 39 students were on the chartered bus when it caught fire while travelling along Vibhavadi Rangsit Road, near the Zeer Rangsit shopping centre in Lam Luk Ka district.

Two of the three students injured in the blaze will require at least another month of treatment at Thammasat University Hospital.
