The cabinet on Monday agreed to extend the imposition of the Internal Security Act in Bangkok and parts of adjacent provinces for another 61 days from May 1 to June 30 as proposed by the Centre for the Administration of Peace and Order (Capo), reports said.
Capo's reason for seeking the ISA's extension was that there were still hostile movements of conflicting groups and a risk of confrontations between them.
Caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra reportedly asked Capo to consider whether its staff should be reduced because the situation had eased in some areas, to save on costs.
The cabinet also approved a budget of 8.83 billlion baht for the Excise Department to pay outstanding refunds to first-car buyers under the government's policy tax rebate scheme.
