Japanese 'hangs himself' in Ekamai

A Japanese man was found dead in a room behind a well-known Japanese restaurant on Sukhumvit Road (Ekamai Soi 4) in Bangkok's Wattana district, police said on Sunday morning.

Pol Lt Piyawit Thongdet, a duty officer at Klongton police, said Taro Okada, aged 37, was found hanging by an electric cable from a restroom door behind Sasaou restaurant. There were no wounds on the man's body or signs of a struggle

Pol Lt Piyawit said a note was found in the room. The note was handwritten in Japanese and suggested that the Japanese man was conned by a Thai woman who took away his money.

The father of Okada told investigators that his son had had a fierce argument with the Thai woman who owned a restaurant in Thonglor. His son then secluded himself in a room before he was found dead.

Police have initially concluded that Okada committed suicide. His body was sent for post-mortem examination.
