Mr Arisman's lawyer Suchaiwut Chaosuankluay said this when asked about pictures of the red-shirt firebrand in India posted on the Internet.

He said Mr Arisman had long had an intention of going to India on pilgrimage.

The core member of the red-shrirt United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship submitted a request to do so with the Criminal Court when he left the monkhood last month and the court gave him the permission on Feb 27.  He was required to deposit 600,000 baht with the court as a guarantee.

Mr Suchaiwut said Mr Arisman has left for India and is due to return to Thailand on Mar 15.  He is to report to the court in not later than Mar 22.

Mr Arisman fled after the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) ended the rally at the Ratchaprasong intersection on May 19, 2010.

He reportedly went into hiding in neighbouring Cambodia and returned late last year to fight many charges, including terrorism, awaiting him in Thailand.

Following many requests, he was finally released on bail by the Criminal Court.  He went into monkhood after the release.
