Pheu Thai Party leader Charupong Ruangsuwan is among 21 people who may face arrest for defying orders to report to the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) over the past three weeks.
A military staff judge advocate on Friday asked the Police Crime Suppression Division to seek court approval for arrest warrants for Mr Charupong and 20 others.
Mr Charupong has been in hiding since the coup-makers ordered him to report shortly after the military toppled the Pheu Thai goverment on May 22. There have been reports that he may be planning to head an anti-coup resistance movement.
Others who could face arrest warrants include Sophon Mektrakul, legal scholar Verapat Pariyawong who is in England, former Pheu Thai MP Sunai Chulapongsathorn, Nat Satayapornpisut, Tee Borirak, Thanthawut Thaweewarodomkul, Suda Rangkupan, Chai-anant Phaisithong and Pongpichet Sukjindathong.
Also on the list are Pruetnarin Thanaboriboonsuk, red-shirt activists Darunee Kritboonyalai and Wuthipong Kotchathamkhun, Surachai Danwatananusorn, academic Pavin Chatchavalpongpun, Sqdn Ldr Chanin Klaiklueng, Nithiwat Wannasiri, Saran Chuichai, Trairong Sinsuebpol, Charit Yonoknakphan and Wat Wanlayangkun.
Those who defy the surrender order are liable to a jail term of up to two years and/or a fine of up to 40,000 baht.
