An earthquake measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale struck near the southern coastline of Myanmar on Wednesday at 6.28am (Thailand time), Thairath Online reported, quoting the directors of two major dams in Kanchanaburi province.
The epicentre of the quake was 315.65km west of Vajiralongkorn dam and 380.15km west of Srinakarin dam in Kanchanaburi.
Thanarat Phummakasikorn, director of Srinakarin dam, and Nathawut Jaemjaeng, director of Vajiralongkorn dam, said after learning of the quake they ordered officials to check the seismographs installed at the two dams.
They found the dams had not been affected by the moderate quake.
The two dams were strongly built and have been well-maintained and regularly checked to ensure safety to meet international standards, they said.
