The Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA), led by directors Maj Gen Prachya Chalermwat, Dechboon Marprasert, and Jarun Wiwatjesadawut, together with MEA Governor Kirapat Jiamset and other executives, organised “Mangrove Reforestation to Honour His Majesty the King” on the auspicious occasion of the Coronation Ceremony of King Rama X and “Mangrove Conservation” on the occasion of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua’s Birthday at Chulachomklao Fort, Bangkok Naval Base, Royal Thai Navy in Laem Fa Pha Sub-district, Phra Samut Chedi District, Samut Prakan Province, on 25 July 2019. The activities were facilitated by Commander Supanat Wandee, Deputy Commander of Chulachomklao Fort, Bangkok Naval Base.
MEA Assistant Governor Jaturong Suriyasasin revealed that: “The activities are a collaboration between MEA staff and Chulachomklao Fort officers to honour His Majesty the King. At least 300 volunteers came to plant 6,700 mangroves at Ban Laem Sing, Phra Samut Chedi District, Samut Prakan Province. The mangroves will help reduce the damage to local communities from storms and conserve the coastal ecosystem and nesting habitats.”
“We also helped clean the area and we hope our actions spread awareness among participants and will benefit the local people going forward.”
MEA Assistant Governor Jaturong added that the MEA recently constructed outer anti-tidal walls from un-needed concrete power poles and tyres in the Chulachomklao Fort area to prevent coastal erosion along the 1,700-metre coast. The MEA is supporting the project with 2 million baht over five years from 2018 to 2022 to fund mangrove reforestation and move un-needed power poles from the Bangkok Naval Base, plus another 1 million baht for the anti-tidal walls project.
