Bangkok: November 3, 2019 — Aditya Birla Group, a storied US $48.3 billion global Indian conglomerate, celebrated 50 years of its operations in Thailand today.
The event held at Centara Grand Convention Center in Bangkok, was graced by the presence of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi and several other dignitaries from the Thai and Indian government.
This marks a significant milestone not just for the Aditya Birla Group but also for Corporate India, as the Group’s founder Mr. Aditya Vikram Birla was the first Indian Industrialist to venture overseas. 22 years before the Indian economy was formally opened, Mr. Aditya Vikram Birla made a pioneering foray into Thailand by setting up a spinning unit. Today, the group has catapulted to become one of the largest diversified enterprises in Thailand.
The Aditya Birla Group’s presence in Thailand through its nine state-of-the-art plants, spans diverse sectors such as textiles, carbon black and chemicals.
Addressing a gathering of Government officials, industry leaders, value chain partners and employees of the Aditya Birla Group, The Hon’ble Prime Minister said : “We are here in Thailand with whom India has a strong cultural linkage. And we are marking 50 years of a leading Indian industrial business in Thailand. This reaffirms my belief that commerce and culture have inherent powers to unite. It is truly a special occasion. I congratulate the team of Aditya Birla Group. We just heard Mr. Kumar Mangalam Birla talk about the commendable work the Group is doing in Thailand and beyond. It is creating opportunities and prospects for many.”
Mr. Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairman, Aditya Birla Group stated that it was a matter of great pride to celebrate the 50 th Anniversary of ABG in Thailand, in the presence of the Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi who is a true Global Champion and has enabled India to take a quantum leap in the embrace of Globalization. He further said, “ We are very grateful to the Kingdom for their unflinching support over the years. The last 50 years have continually reinforced the richness of Thai talent and the support of the government for business, and our commitment to Thailand is demonstrated by the $2 billion dollars of investment we have made over the years. Our success in Thailand has been predicated on the commitment and dedication of our close to 4000 employees. As a Group, we continue to remain deeply invested in Thailand's growth and development.”
During the celebration, several of the Company’s alumni, partners and suppliers were felicitated for their longstanding association and contribution to the Group’s success in the country.
