Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co. Ltd. recently signed the Digital Technology Workforce Development Memorandum of Understanding
With the Department of Skill Development (DSD), under the Ministry of Labour, to establish a collaborative platform to enhance digital technology knowledge and skill development in Thailand. Over the next three years, the two parties will create and facilitate learning opportunities and hands-on training focused on skills development, including reskilling and upskilling, to ensure that Thailand can match the needs of the labour market, reduce unemployment, raise incomes, and improve standards of living.
This MoU comes in response to the need to develop a healthy digital ecosystem and rising demand for highly skilled workers, particularly with the arrival of new S-curve industries in line with the government’s Thailand 4.0 policy.
Under this three-year agreement, Huawei will share ICT knowledge and offer training courses and on-the-job programs to increase the skills of young and adult workers in cooperation with the DSD. Aiming to supply a well-trained workforce to the labour market and boost the growing digital economy, Huawei and DSD target to train and certify 120 ICT trainers and 3,000 skilled workers through ICT courses that will be co-organised by both parties. After completing and meeting all requirements, participants receive official certificates for the acquired skills and level of competency.
Chaired by Prof. Dr. Narumon Pinyosinwat, Deputy Labour Minister and graced by Mr. Abel Deng, CEO of Huawei Thailand, the signing ceremony was held at Huawei’s headquarters in Bangkok between Mr. Thawat Benchatikul, Director-General of Department of Skill Development, and Mr. Brian Liu, Deputy Managing Director of Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd.
During the event, graduates of Huawei’s 5G Network Equipment Installation Course which is taught on-the-job and is one of the main pilot projects under the partnership, received their certificates after completing the intensive 18-hour course held over 19-21 October.
Targeting to train 300 skilled technicians over the course of three years, the main topics covered by the program include 4G and 5G networks along with on-site training at base stations.
